Bacterion is a microbiological analysis system, which consists of SAI’s powerful and compact LaserToF 2 Plus tabletop MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer and their powerful BactoSCREEN-ID software package for device control, spectral analysis and identification of microorganisms including bacteria, yeasts and fungi. It is intended for use for clinical and research diagnostics in a large variety of settings. The system is designed for specific identification of microorganisms, testing their antimicrobial susceptibility and identifying genetic determinants of drug resistance by means of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF). BactoSCREEN-ID software is designed to rapidly identify the taxonomy of a microorganism under study at the species level by comparing its mass spectrometry profile with the profiles of known strains of microorganisms present in the corresponding database.
